CHANGES IN PATENT LAWS
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION LAWS

The environmental regulation is defined as the set of objectives, principles, criteria and general guidance for the protection of the environment of a particular society. Colombia, is one ofthe first countries in Latin America that proposed the environmental regulation since 1991 with the Colombian Political Constitution. Which rises to constitutional rule the consideration, management and conservation of natural resources and the environment, through the enactment of the Right to a healthy environment and sustainable development: Articles 79 and 80.

The entity in charge of consolidating the environmental laws is The Environmental Information System of Colombia (SIAC).

Our industry of eco-tourism is affected by this factor because the services we provide are totally related to the environment, all our tours need to function according to the laws, in this way the environment (our main stage) wont be damaged. Also, our objective is to teach our customers about this laws and the right way to treat the nature and all the places they will go with us.

Changes in tax laws

The tax reform creates a new wealth tax. Under general terms, all individuals and legal entities in Colombia, who are deemed income taxpayers, including nonresidents (not expressly excluded by the law to pay this tax) are subject to this tax, provided their tax net equity (gross assets minus debts) as of 1 January 2015, is greater than COP 1,000,000,000 (approx. USD 388,800). In addition, unliquidated inheritances also are subject to this tax if the tax net equity threshold is met.

Changes such as:  Personal and family minimum increase and the creation of tax benefits for large families and people with disabilities; Taxation of savings is implemented, the fee depends on the amount; The taxation of severance pay and delivery of shares of the company to its employees is modified; Yields economic activities are modified; Deduction and reduction is implemented by the rental housing or New tax in corporation. Are really important in services companies due to the fact that the monetary capacity and consumption increases with the increase in salaries and other aid given to a group of people, in this case with disabilities. This allows people to consume and acquire new services. However, the rise and various changes also affects negatively because people must pay more for it, which would reduce the consumer capacity to buy and acquire new products and services.

Voter Participation Rates

In Colombia people eligible to vote are 32.8 million. At the polls recently attended more than 14.3 million citizens taking into account the number of votes in the Senate. This constitutes another defeat for democracy because, as seen, over half of the population does not exercise its right.

The figures show that although the electoral roll grew from 1958-2010, an average of 1,893,699 citizens in every presidential election, ie approximately 7.69% by presidential period and 99.97% in the last 52 years , political participation has always fluctuated over 56.52%.

These rates show the participation of citizens in the electoral period, the fluctuation in comparison with past years.

This factor has a impact in the tourism because the elected representatives will be responsible for making decisions in different areas of the country, and this decision can lead to any action taken by the government that could negatively or positively for our service.

Sex Roles

Gender roles refer to the set of social and behavioral norms that are considered to be socially appropriate for individuals of a specific sex. There has been significant variation in gender roles over cultural and historical spans, and all gender roles are culturally and historically contingent.
The national trend toward a total integration of gender roles is reflected in women's education, professional achievement, and family income contributions. Currently, more women than men are enrolled in college, and women are expected to earn more graduate degrees than men over the next several years. In 2015, 22% of American households had two income earners, which suggests the presence of women in the workforce.

Attitudes Toward Investing

Only wealthy people in Americans can be able to invest, people who have enough money to satisfy their needs, and still have enough to invest or just to save it at the bank. This attitude completely depends on the economic level that the person have. If they have enough to fill their necessities and still have enough to invest, there are many possibilities such as land, or give it to a shareholder that will help him to invest. Because of the very great moment that de dollar is having in the international markets, the Americans are investing a lot the lasted research said that less than half, or 48%, of American adults have money in stocks, according to Bankrate's Money Pulse survey.

Racial Equality

Fewer than one in three black Americans and not even half of whites say the United States has made “a lot” of progress toward achieving racial equality in the half-century since the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. declared he had “a dream” that one day freedom justice and brotherhood would prevail and that his children would “not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”. Blacks and whites generally agree that the two races get along well, but about 7 in 10 blacks and more than 1 in 4 whites also concur that blacks are treated unequally by the criminal justice system. A majority of blacks also say they are treated less fairly than whites in public schools and in the workplace. Not so much, though, that nearly half of all Americans 49 % in all, or 44 % of whites, 48 % of Hispanics and 79 % of blacks said a lot more progress needed to be made to achieve Dr. King’s vision of a colorblind society. Republicans are more likely than Democrats to believe there has been racial progress. Fully 80 % of all Americans say at least some more needs to be done.

About 43 million of them (70%) are at risk of unintended pregnancy that is, they are sexually active and do not want to become pregnant, but could become pregnant if they and their partners fail to use a contraceptive method correctly and consistently.

  • More than 99% of women aged 15–44 who have ever had sexual intercourse have used at least one contraceptive method.

  • Some 62% of all women of reproductive age are currently using a contraceptive method.

Average Level Of Education

In the United States, 42% of all 25-64 year-olds have a tertiary (higher education) attainment, making it one of the most well-educated countries in the world. Only Canada (51%), Israel (46%), Japan (45%) and the Russian Federation (54%) have higher tertiary attainment levels among this age group (Table A1.3a). At the same time, a number of countries have now surpassed the U.S. in the percentage of younger adults with a tertiary attainment. The U.S. ranks 14th among 37 OECD and G20 countries in the percentage of 25-34 year-olds with higher education, at 42% above the OECD average (38%), but far behind the leader, Korea (65%).

  • The U.S. ranks 14th in the world in the percentage of 25-34 year-olds with higher education (42%).

  • The odds that a young person in the U.S. will be in higher education if his or her parents do not have an upper secondary education are just 29% -- one of the lowest levels among OECD countries.

  • The U.S ranks 28th in the percentage of 4-year-olds in early childhood education, with a 69% enrolment rate.

  • Across all OECD countries, 30% of the expenditure on higher education comes from private sources, while in the U.S., 62% does.

Level of defense expenditures

Colombia’s funding in 2006 for the military and police totaled $4.48 billion, a real increase of more than 30 percent since 2001 that now accounted for 11.6 percent of the overall national budget. The government has compensated for its defense budget shortfalls with additional funding, including funds derived from departmental or municipal governments, the armed forces’ own security-related businesses, the “wealth tax” that raised more than US$800 million between 2004 and 2006, and annual U.S. military aid in the form of “foreign military financing” and financial assistance from counternarcotics initiatives. In 2007 the Colombian government announced a new tax on wealthy Colombians. The expectation was that this wealth tax will generate up to US$3.6 billion between 2007 and 2010 to carry out President Uribe’s Democratic Security goals. Colombia has put more than money on the line to ensure its security. In July 2002, at the end of the Pastrana administration, 181,000 uniformed military and 97,000 police were active. By February 2007, those ranks had grown to 251,000 military and 134,000 police, for an increase of 38 percent during the Uribe administration. For the next stage of consolidation, Colombia planned to add over 16,000 army, navy and air force personnel and 20,000 police.

Now, taking into account our tourism industry, this factor will affect us in the way that a lot of money is being used for a defense and military purposes, and other important aspects as development, infrastructure, maintenance and transport, and others are being “forgotten”. For us, this is positive and negative. Positive because our foreign and national customers will feel save and be protected during their trips, and negative because things like for example infrastructure are an important aspect that attract more tourists to Colombia.

Legislation on equal employment

The Employment Equity is an essential part of the respect and protection of the human rights, as the fair and equitable economic development; in this way is part of an effective route to achieving peace. The Ministry of Labor has created a special group, attached to the Office of the Minister, which aims to ensure the mainstreaming of differential approaches to all policies, programs and projects developed and that has an impact on the portfolio. The dignified, decent and quality work must be a real possibility for all Colombians.

In Colombia, is established that men and women should have the same right and possibility to accede to any job, which they should be pay and treat equally. The real problem is that it is written but not taken into action, and it will affect every sector in Colombians industries. As said in another Social factor, the people is not obeying all the laws and they are not having the best attitude towards authority.

Continuing to represent one of the largest shifts of public opinion in Gallup history, 87% of Americans now favor marriage between blacks and whites, up from 4% in 1958.

These data are from Gallup's Minority Rights and Relations poll, conducted June 13-July 5. The poll surveyed 4,373 Americans, including 1,010 non-Hispanic blacks.

Approval of marriages between blacks and whites is up one percentage point from 2011, when this attitude was last measured. Approval has generally increased in a linear fashion from Gallup's first measure in 1958, reaching the majority threshold in 1997, and crossing the three-quarters line in 2004. Eleven percent of Americans today say they disapprove of black-white marriage, compared with 94% who disapproved in 1958.

Blacks' approval of black-white marriage (96%) is now nearly universal, while whites' approval is 12 percentage points lower, at 84%.

The import and export regulations, as it’s name says, are laws that regulate the entry and exit of goods in a country.
The importation of goods is the entrance of merchandise from foreign countries into national territory.
Export of goods is the exit of goods from Colombia to foreign countries.
In Colombia, there is the exchange rate regime that is in charge of this duty. Last year, the importations were higher than the exportations.
The effect of this trend in our industry is little because the tourism business doesn’t really work with imports or exports.

The goal of the fiscal and monetary policy in Colombia is to keep a low and stable inflation, also to reach a productive growth that goes along with capacity of the economy. What this means is that the goals of the policy combine the goal of stability in the prices with the higher sustainable growth of Jobs and production. The “Banco de La Republica” seeks to find stability in the value of money and avoid unbalance in the balance of payments by exercising their influence over the interest rates and inflation.

Currently, the Colombian peso has reached a level of depreciation that we have never seen before. The effect of this in our industry is both good and bad. Since our industry Works within two countries, Colombia and United Stated, we can expect that because of the deceleration of the economy, people from Colombia will have a more “saving” attitude, meanwhile, the Americans, will find that everything is cheaper here and that will give them a reason to come and visit our country, giving the tourism industry a boost.

The political conditions in foreign countries are very important in the tourism business because sometimes, countries’ citizens’ have restrictions to leave the country or so.  That is why is so important for this industries that countries are politically open, so their citizens are free to go wherever they feel to. Another way that the political conditions can affect, is in the home country, where if there exist any political unrest, the tourists wont feel like going there because the environment isn’t totally safe, therefore, they avoid these kind of places.
